Here’s an uncomfortable truth: decisions that reshape your business get made in Washington regularly, and nobody is required to send you an invitation.
A merger between two companies you’ve never contracted with, or rulemaking on spectrum you rely on. Or something we recently helped a client with… a license transfer that put their critical infrastructure under new ownership. By the time these show up in the trade press, the window to influence them may already be closing.
This Isn’t Hypothetical. Look at the Last Two Years.
Satellite licensing just got faster, for everyone. In August 2025, the FCC adopted sweeping reforms that accelerate satellite and earth station licensing: more modifications without prior approval, a 30-day shot clock on most earth station renewals, and flexible new license types. Great news if you’re launching. But it also means your competitors move faster too, and if your business depends on ground-station access or shared bands, the landscape is shifting under your feet.
The entire rulebook is being rewritten. In October 2025, the Commission proposed scrapping its decades-old Part 25 satellite rules for a brand-new “Part 100” framework, which is a modular licensing assembly line, batch approvals for large constellations, and license terms doubled to 20 years. If you’re planning a launch in the next five years, the rules you’ll operate under are being written right now. The companies filing comments today are shaping them. The ones who aren’t will live with the results.
We help clients see what’s coming, protect what they’ve built, and make sure the Commission hears their side.
Spectrum lines are blurring. The FCC’s Supplemental Coverage from Space framework opened terrestrial mobile spectrum to satellite direct-to-device service, and the Commission has since proposed further sharing between mobile and satellite operators, including in the Upper C-band. Spectrum you thought was settled is now in play. That’s opportunity for some, interference risk for others… and which one you get often depends on who showed up in the proceeding.
Sure, You Could Watch It Yourself
The FCC publishes everything. Daily digests, public notices, and open dockets in the order of dozens if not hundreds of filings a week, written in regulatory language, inside a maze of proceedings. Knowing that a proceeding exists isn’t the same as knowing it matters, and knowing it matters isn’t the same as knowing what to do about it.
Here’s where things get tricky… the FCC can only rule on the record in front of it. If your side of the story isn’t in the record, it doesn’t exist, so getting into the record, the right way, at the right time, with the right arguments, is where the work starts.
What Having a Partner Actually Means
A partner with their finger on the pulse sees things coming before they become headlines, because they’re tracking the dockets, the filings, and the signals from the agencies every day, and they know which ones touch your business.
A partner with direct access knows how the system actually works: which filing vehicle fits your situation, what arguments the Commission actually weighs, how to establish your standing, and who’s in the room when decisions take shape. They’ve built relationships across the agencies over years, the kind you can’t develop when you need them tomorrow.
The difference is way more than just having the information… It’s positioning. Anyone can read a public notice after it drops, but the right advocate makes sure that when a proceeding affects your business, your interests are already in the record, framed for the best possible outcome, before the window closes.
Don’t Watch Your Future Get Decided Without You
In every example above, the outcome was shaped by the parties who engaged early. Your business’s future shouldn’t hinge on a proceeding you never saw coming, or one you saw too late to shape. The companies that protect themselves have an advisor in their corner who already knows what’s coming and exactly what to do about it. This is the kind of thing that keeps us excited, every day, to help keep our clients in orbit.
